"in solitude......"

by Yusuf Arakkal

Long after most lights of Bangalore have been switched off, its inhabitants gone to the land of sleep youmay spy a lone light outside Yusuf Arakkal's home.

Look closer and you will probably see the artist staring into the night, his dog Kushi occasionally pulling at his clothes to rekind him its his bedtime. But for the artist, this is his brooding time, his much relished "solitude" when those thoughts and images lurking in the secret dark corners of his mind tiptoe out.

Yusuf Arakkal turned sixty this year, an age for taking stock of one's life, and of renewal. In this exhibition titled, "In Solitude", the artist has foraged his past to move forward, adding more depth and maturity to his earlier work.
